The CPI(M) on Friday told the 14th Finance Commission that the underground fire, subsidence and emission of poisonous gas in the Jharia coalfields of Dhanbad be considered as a "national disaster".
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said he cannot believe that there was no solution to underground fires in coal fields of Jharia, in BJP-ruled Jharkhand, that has been smoking for 25 years.
Some people left the
area following leakage of gas at Dhaludih in Jharia as experts
of Bharat Coking Coal Limited on Wednesday went to the area, a senior
BCCL official said here.
