Former Chief Justice of India JS Verma on Saturday questioned the continunance of K G Balakrishnan as NHRC Chairman when his predecessor was not not appointed to
that post because he faced allegations of corruption.
With IT department alleging former CJI K G Balakrishnan`s kin possess "black money", ex-CJI J S Verma demanded that he should quit as NHRC chief and if he does not, the President should intervene to get him removed from the post.
CJI K G Balakrishnan warned that long periods of delay in
disposing of cases would lead people to "revolt" and the legal
system to crumble, as he made a strong pitch for doubling the
number of subordinate courts to 35,000.
