Cold wave conditions on Thursday continued unabated in several parts of Himachal Pradesh as tribal areas and higher hills had another spell of moderate snow while thunderstorm accompanied by rains lashed the mid and lower hills in the state.
Mercury hovered around freezing point in most parts of Himachal Pradesh on Saturday and the state's higher reaches reeled under arctic conditions where mercury stayed between minus 18 to minus 28 degree Celsius.
Biting cold wave conditions sweeping across the tribal areas and other higher hills of Himachal Pradesh further intensified today as the mercury dropped by four to five degrees in tribal areas and hovered around the freezing point in mid and lower hills.
The tribal areas and higher hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under piercing cold wave conditions as minimum temperature stayed below freezing point even as maximum temperatures rose marginally in lower hills on Saturday.
Blocking of Billing nallah due to massive landslide and fast melting of glacier in Lahaul and Spiti district has resulted in formation of a 250-metre long artificial lake, which is threating to flood the nallah and nearby areas as district administration has asked the locals to take precaution.
