The Delhi High Court sought a response from the Centre and the state government on a PIL seeking a direction to take
appropriate safety measures in Mayapuri scrap market following
last year`s radiation exposure incident.
A team of experts from the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board and the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre has visited Mayapuri following reports that radiation exposure was still high in the area, an official said Sunday.
The National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA)has recommended to the Delhi state government
to screen the people residing or visiting Mayapuri scrap yard
which was affected by radiation contamination last month.
DU`s department of chemistry staff will be questioned today after the source of the radioactive material, which claimed one life and affected 7 in a west Delhi scrap market, was traced to the department`s laboratory, police said.
Fearing presence of more radioactive sources in Delhi scrap yard Mayapuri, National Disaster Management Authority and Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) plan to carry out a multi-pronged approach survey in the area.
