An over-enthusiastic young fan today escaped the eyes of the Airforce Police deployed at the Palam ground and entered the field of play to greet Sachin Tendulkar, who is playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Services.
The extent of damage caused by rains to the 22-yard strip at the Airforce Palam ground was evident with fourth day`s play of the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Services and Mumbai called off without a ball being bowled despite bright sunshine throughout the day on Saturday.
The heavy downpour last night along with a hailstorm blew away the pitch cover at the Airforce Ground in Palam, leaving the 22-yard strip on which the Ranji Trophy semi-final between Mumbai and Services is being played, wet.
Sachin Tendulkar, on tuesday, cut short his net session ahead of Mumbai`s Ranji Trophy semi-final against Services after facing only four deliveries as the practice pitch provided by the host association was not upto the mark.
Sachin Tendulkar failed to convert a good start as favourites Mumbai struggled to score runs on a difficult track against minnows Services, ending the first day`s play at 198 for six in their Ranji Trophy semi-final match here on Wednesday.
