Officials of National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST), including its chairman, on Monday today held a high-level meeting with the Chief Secretary and DGP of Assam over the situation following the serial attacks on tribals by NDFB(S) militants.
National Commission for Scheduled Tribes has expressed concern over "much less than prescribed" presence of Scheduled Tribes in jobs and recommended a time-bound action plan and special drive by the government to meet the constitutional quota of 7.5 per cent for them.
Centre should have
"over-arching supervisory control and authority" to prevent
and control sectarian violence and other social conflicts
which may lead to prolonged and escalated violence, NCST has suggested.
