International Olympic Committee member in India, Randhir Singh today described the country`s return to Olympic fold as a "great development" but said the 14-month suspension would not have happened had the IOA "realised" the importance of the IOC Charter.
The Indian sports fraternity today heaved a sigh of relief on the country`s return to the Olympic fold but said the IOA should learn a lesson from the 14 months of suspension so that the embarrassing episode is never repeated.
International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach has said the Executive Board welcomed the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) decision to amend a clause in its constitution “to meet the basic standards of ethics, good governance and integrity”.
Pleased with the constitutional amendments undertaken by the IOA to bar charge-framed officials, the International Olympic Committee now wants the Indian body to conduct its elections as soon as possible to ensure a smooth return to the Olympic fold.
