The minister was here to inaugurate a workshop on the role of college teachers in promoting Oriya language in the class rooms.
Orissa will hereafter be called
`Odisha` and the Oriya language will be known as `Odia` with
Parliament giving approval to amendment of the Constitution
and also passing the related bill.
About two-and-half decades
after a proposal was made to make Oriya the official
langugage, the Orissa government has taken a formal decision
to implement it in a phased manner.
