In a first, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala and Chandigarh managed to dispose cases pending for a decade or more by fast-tracking coiurt procedures. The Press Council of India is
currently faced with pendency of 931 cases and the average
time taken to dispose of a matter is six months.
With over 2.38 crore cases pending
in various courts across the country, the government plans to launch a six-month-long campaign in association with the
judiciary this year to bring down the pendency.
