The election of Communist Party
President Jhalanath Khanal on Thursday was described as a
"catastrophe" by Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Poudyal,
who was defeated for the 17th time in the top race.
As Nepalese lawmakers failed
to elect Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Poudyal as PM for 12th time, CPN-UML asked him to withdraw his candidacy to facilitate consensus among parties to end the
Nepal`s parliament failed to elect a new Prime Minister for the eighth time in a row as R C Poudyal of Nepali Congress was unable to garner
majority support even after the withdrawal of Maoist chairman
Prachanda from the race.
As Nepal remained in a
political deadlock, a top Maoist leader suggested that the two contenders, former rebels chief Prachanda and his
Nepali Congress rival R C Poudyal, should withdraw from the
prime ministerial race.
