Decision was taken in a meeting convened to take stock of arrangements by
the state government in view of early snowfall on Zojilla top.
During the six winter months, when the highway remains snowbound, air traffic is the only link between the cold desert region of Ladakh and the rest of the country.
Against the backdrop of
heightened Chinese activity along the Ladakh border, the
Srinagar-Leh national highway has been widened to allow
passage of T-72 tanks.
Jammu and Kashmir government on Tuesday
said the decision to allow traffic on Srinagar-Kargil road
would only be taken after Border Roads Organisation (BRO)
gives its clearance.
