Slain sandalwood smuggler Veerappan`s associates sought commutation of their death sentence to life imprisonment by telling the Supreme Court that there has been an inordinate delay in deciding their mercy plea.
The SC stayed till further orders the execution of death sentence of four aides of sandalwood smuggler Veerappan, who were awarded capital punishment in 2004 for a landmine blast that left 22 police personnel dead.
