A strong aftershock 6.2 in magnitude struck offshore northern Chile early on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, following a 6.7 magnitude earthquake nearby on Sunday that caused only minor damage but led to brief evacuations along the coast.
US Geological Survey says a magnitude 6.2 earthquake off the west coast of Canada is an aftershock of the magnitude 7.7 quake that struck Saturday night.
A 5.0-magnitude aftershock did not generate any reports of serious damage.
The 7.1-magnitude quake late Thursday was the strongest tremor since March 11 jumbo.
The quake occured on shores of Honshu island, 300 km north-east of Tokyo, at a shallow depth of 15 km.
