An amoeba parasite that causes potentially fatal dysentery in poor countries wreaks its havoc by eating intestinal cells alive, scientists reported today.
Naegleria fowleri, a waterborne organism commonly known as the "brain-eating" amoeba, has led to the death of a 40-year-old man in Pakistan`s Karachi port city, the third such case this year.
Cheaters may prosper in the short term, but they are doomed to fail, at least in the microscopic world of amoebas, say researchers.
