The air pollution reached "dangerous levels" in 106 Chinese cities due to use of fireworks and firecrackers during the celebrations welcoming the Lunar New Year, according to a report.
Only nine of 161 Chinese cities reached the new -- and stricter -- air quality monitoring standards in the first half of this year, according to the ministry of environmental protection (MEP).
Smog continued to blanket China`s north and central regions for the third day today, prompting the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) to issue a yellow alert for air pollution.
