UP government officials will assess coal shortage in the state on a daily basis and inform the Centre by posting it on Twitter, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday said.
The government may allow power companies to meet any shortfall of coal through their choice and pass the increased cost to end consumers, if Coal India fails to supply the committed quantity.
India faces a shortage of 70
million tonne (MT) of coal this fiscal and the demand supply
gap in 2011-12 may reach about 51 MT, coal minister Sriprakash
Jaiswal informed the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
