The anti-rape bill, brought against the backdrop of the outrage over Delhi gang-rape, will be tabled in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
The Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday passed the anti-rape bill, while maintaining the age for consensual sex at 18 years.
Sorting out differences, a Group of Ministers recommended lowering of age of consent for sex from 18 to 16 years and suggested stern punishment for offences like stalking.
Amid persisting differences in the Cabinet, the tough law against rape and other crimes was on Tuesday referred to a Group of Ministers which held its first meeting and reported substantial progress in evolving a consensus.
