India has been hailed for its "unprecedented commitment" to save the endangered tiger by a prominent US-based wildlife body.
A man who shot dead a rare tiger in S-W China was sentenced to 12 years in prison and fined 580,000 yuan (85,000 dollars), state media reported Tuesday.
With China observing the year of the Tiger in 2010, conservationists across the globe fear the endangered mammal would be threatened more, as trade in tiger goods is likely to rise considerably.
