Arunachal Pradesh which follows the Assam Forest Regulation Act (AFRA), 1891, will enact its own Forest Act to protect virgin forests and flora and fauna in the state.
Naxals have launched a campaign against the Mendha Lekha model which allows tribals to exercise rights to harvest bamboo.
The Assam government has decided to go all out to protect the forest wealth of the state, a state minister said.
The amendment is aimed at ending harassment of tribals by forest officials, Jairam Ramesh said.
