The Congress in Karnataka
on Tuesday claimed that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa and his
family have evaded income tax to the tune of Rs 339.54 crore
and demanded that the Centre institute a probe into it.
As part of surveillance to monitor
large withdrawal of cash from banks, Income Tax officials are
questioning two persons who worked as conduits for traders and
withdrew Rs 20 crore from a bank on a single day in March.
The Income Tax department has
slapped show cause and demand notices of Rs 122.8 crore to a
publication company owned by former Congress MP Y S Jaganmohan
Reddy for mismatching amounts reported in its records.
The Income Tax sleuths who carried out searches at the premises of Bollywood actors Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif, were aided by `hero`, a small yellow suitcase which copied voluminous data from the actor`s computers.
The Monday morning came as a huge shock for the leading ladies of Bollywood - Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra as the Income Tax department officials raided the actresses’ residential and office premises. According to reports, the I-T department has been conducting raids under a tip off and it is also reported that there has been enough credible information given to the officials to carry on with their investigation.
