To make faster the process under which permissions are given to run TV channels, Information and Broadcasting ministry has decided not to seek fresh security clearance for companies which have been cleared by the Home ministry and are applying for an additional channel.
The I&B ministry is mulling making security clearance mandatory for candidates before appointment as Prasar Bharati board members in the backdrop of sexual assault charges against Tarun Tejpal, who had been selected for the post.
Some MPs want it banned. The information and broadcasting ministry has threatened to shut down the host channel for use of obscene language on the show. The Delhi High Court has been petitioned to stop the telecast.
