Gas supplies stop to power plants; Scindia wants EGoM meet

Reliance Industries has stopped gas supplies to power plants after its KG-D6 output hit an all-time low, prompting Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to press for convening an urgent meeting of a ministerial panel to rework allocations.

"RIL has agreed to audit by CAG for block KG-DWN-98/3 (KG-D6) for the years 2008-09 to 2011-12 without prejudice to the rights and contentions of the contractor under the contractual provisions," Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Panabaaka Lakshmi said in a written reply to a question in the House.

The government had in 2007 approved USD 4.2 per million British thermal unit as the price of KG-D6 gas for first five years of production. KG-D6 began pumping gas from April 2009.
