Tuareg militants killed several Malian soldiers during clashes in the rebel bastion of Kidal on Wednesday, a United Nations source told AFP, as the insurgents claimed to have taken control of the town.
Two Malian soldiers were killed and more than 40 injured on Thursday when their military transporter crashed, the army said.
The ouster of Prime Minister Cheikh Modibo Diarra has prompted fierce criticism from the United Nations, the United States and the African Union, among others.
