Union Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Wednesday said incidents of Maoist violence had come down in the country in the past one-and-a-half to two years.
Fearing Maoist attacks, more than 56,000 para-military personnel and police forces from 10 states have been deployed in Chhattisgarh to ensure peaceful polling from Monday.
Security has been beefed up along the porous Indo-Nepal border areas in eastern Uttar Pradesh districts following incidents of alleged Maoist attacks.
Statistics show that Naxals have been killing 3 persons in every 2 days for the past five years.
