A proposed garbage treatment plant near world-famous monuments in Goa, which are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India and visited by a large number of tourists, has drawn opposition from the locals.
In perhaps the first pact of its
kind, the Archaeological Survey of India and the Ahmedabad
Municipal Corporation on Thursday joined hands to preserve ancient
monuments and sites in the key Gujarat city.
Nine little-known unprotected
monuments in the national capital will get a new lease of life
with the Delhi government giving a nod for their conservation
and protection, thanks to the Commowealth Games.
With a Bill on setting up a special
force to protect parks and memorials named after dalit icons
awaiting the Governor`s nod, Mayawati Government has now sent
an ordinance with almost similar provisions for his assent.
Stringent punishment can be meted
out to those indulging in desecration of archaeological
monuments with Parliament passing a bill that also provides
for setting up a body to define heritage structures.
