CPI(M)-led LDF on Tuesday staged a walkout in the Kerala Assembly over the UDF government`s decision to wind up the two-decade old palmolein import case.
In accordance with its cabinet decision, Kerala government on Thursday filed a petition in a Vigilance Court seeking to withdraw the two-decade old Palmolein case.
The Kerala High Court has admitted a petition by V S Achuthanandan challenging a vigilance court order giving clean chit to CM Oommen Chandy.
The Kerala High Court Wednesday directed the state government to inform it of its views or file a counter affidavit in two weeks on the petition by CPI-M leader VS Achuthanandan.
A Vigilance court here Thursday posted
to March 24 the further hearing of the 1992 palmolein import case.
VS Achuthanandan on Friday alleged that the Special Prosecutor in
the case had to resign due to pressure from the government.
In a relief to Kerala Chief
Minister Oommen Chandy, a vigilance probe has found he had no
role in the palmolein import corruption case.

A local court posted the Palmolein import case to November 19 in view of the
stay on its hearing passed by the Kerala High Court in a related case.
The Kerala govt Tuesday informed
the High Court that it had no objection to the vigilance court proceeding with its investigation into the role of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the Palmolein case.
A vigilance court here had last month ordered a fresh probe into Chief Minister Oommen Chandy`s alleged role in the case.
The CPI(M)-led LDF
opposition disrupted proceedings in the Kerala Assembly on Monday.
The vigilance court
judge, who had ordered investigation into the role of Chief
Minister Oommen Chandy in the 1992 Palmolein import case,
on Saturday recused himself from the case.
Chandy was Finance Minister in the K Karunakaran government in 1992 when the import deal was inked.
Kerala Chief Minister
Oommen Chandy said he would not appeal against the
Vigilance Court order for a probe into his alleged role in the
palmolein oil import case.
Revenue Minister Thiruvanchoor
Radhakrishnan has assured an "impartial and transparent enquiry"
into the alleged role of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in the
palmolein oil import deal.
Chandy was finance minister in the UDF ministry headed by late K Karunakaran which cleared the Palmolein deal in 1991.
In a new turn to the
politically significant palmolein import graft case in Kerala,
state Vigilance has filed a report in a special court here,
saying there is no need for a further probe citing lack of
Vigilance Court allowed a plea from prosecution to further investigate the palmolein import case.
Opposition Leader Oommen Chandy Tuesday said he would `legally and morally` fight the
recent attempts by the LDF government to implicate him in the
palmolein import graft case.
