Islamic State terror group may have developed a nuclear device by using radioactive uranium stolen from Iraq's Mosul University after seizing control of the city last June, a British media report says.
DU`s department of chemistry staff will be questioned today after the source of the radioactive material, which claimed one life and affected 7 in a west Delhi scrap market, was traced to the department`s laboratory, police said.
The Govt has decided to install Radiation Monitor Portals (RMP) at all ports and entry points in the country amid reports that the recent radiation leak in West Delhi could have happened due to scrap brought in from outside.
Fearing presence of more radioactive sources in Delhi scrap yard Mayapuri, National Disaster Management Authority and Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) plan to carry out a multi-pronged approach survey in the area.
Police is yet to trace the origin
of Cobalt-60, the radioactive material that caused serious
injuries to six persons and are awaiting the recovery of the
owner of the scrap shop from where it was found to get more clarity.
