The SC has asked noted lawyer RK Anand, convicted on contempt of court charges for trying to influence a witness in the BMW hit-and-run case, to either provide free legal aid to poor litigants or face punishment.
Supreme Court today said it would give a preliminary hearing in July to petition filed by Delhi Police challenging the HC`s reducing the punishment of Sanjeev Nanda for mowing down six persons with
his BMW car a decade ago.
Even as it reduced the sentence of Sanjeev Nanda, convicted for running over and killing six people with his BMW in 1999, the Delhi High Court expressed displeasure over the weakening of the prosecution`s stand.
The Delhi High Court on Moday came
down heavily on Sunil Kulkarni, a Mumbai-based key witness in
BMW hit-and-run case, by terming him as "the most dishonest,
unreliable, untrustworthy and untruthful witness."
The Delhi HC is likely to give its verdict Monday in the infamous BMW hit-and-run case in which a trial court hadconvicted and sentenced Sanjeev Nanda to five years` jail for mowing down six persons 1999.
