Singapore economy contracts in second quarter

Singapore`s economy shrank in the second quarter of the year, official data showed Tuesday, as slowing demand from key export markets China and Europe hit manufacturing.

Singapore's economy contracted more than expected in the fourth quarter as manufacturing activity weakened, data showed on Thursday, casting some doubt on market expectations for a slight pick-up in growth over 2014.

The median forecast for the whole year also graded down from 2.8 percent in March survey to 2.3 percent.

Singapore's exports in January expand

This is in comparison with the 16.3 percent decrease in the previous month. The rise was attributed to an increase in non-electronic NODX, which outweighed the decline in electronic NODX, reported Xinhua.
