The Delhi High Court has pulled up the Centre and city government for their "tardy and sluggish" pace of implementing steps to create awareness on the issue of sexual offences and related laws in the capital.
With an eye on the Assembly polls due next year, the Congress-NCP alliance government announced that the current residents of the slums in Mumbai, built before 1995, will be eligible for rehabilitation schemes.
A government survey has found
that about 49,000 slums existed in urban areas of the country
till July last year, with the highest number of them being in
Maharashtra followed by Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
