Amid reports that decision on Telangana issue will be taken this month, Congress on Monday said it was not against creation of smaller states.
Supporting UP CM Mayawati`s proposal to divide the state into four parts, RLD said it would bring a private member`s resolution in the Assembly.
The Centre ruled out constitution of a second States Reorganisation Commission for
creation of smaller states.
Smaller states being formed should have an effective strength of around 150 members in the state assembly.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh
Yadav on Sunday said he was against formation of smaller states,
including Gorkhaland, as their governments generally had a
`weak` grip on the administration.
Amidst demands for carving
out separate Koshala and Kalinga states from Orissa, BJP today
said it favoured creation of smaller states for speedy and
balanced development of different regions of the country.
With the Telengana issue
opening a floodgate of demands for creation of smaller states,
Congress seems to have developed cold feet on the setting up
of a second States Reorganisation Commission.
Former president APJ Abdul Kalam has said the wishes of the people of Telangana should be given priority.
