Japanese rescuers Monday resumed a grim operation to recover more bodies after 31 people were believed killed in a volcanic eruption, as survivors told of seeing hikers die when tonnes of ash and rocks thundered from the sky.
"We were all in sleep... All of a sudden, we all woke up to a burning sensation," said a survivor, who played a good samaritan to help three fellow passengers escape but lost his wife and uncle in the Bangalore-Nanded Express train fire tragedy.
Asiana Airlines on Sunday said it was offering an initial compensation payment worth USD 10,000 to all surviving passengers on board a plane that crashed in San Francisco last month killing three people.
