A multi-layer security blanket has been thrown around the capital with thousands of armed personnel set to keep a tight vigil to thwart any possible terror strike or any untoward incident during the 65th Republic Day celebrations on Sunday.
Elaborate security arrangements have been made in the city for Diwali, with as many as over 1700 additional policemen being deployed to ensure that no untoward incident is reported during the festival.
The annual Amarnath Yatra began on Friday amid tight security, with pilgrims from both Baltal and Pahalgam base camps starting their journey for the 3880-metre-high cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas.
Stringent security measures have
been put in place at the on-going Magh Mela though there are
no intelligence inputs of any terrorist threats to the annual
religious congregation, a top police official said on Sunday.
