Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday presided over a high-level meeting to review security situation in tribal areas and Balochistan province after a powerful faction of the Taliban revoked a peace deal with the government.
Pakistan may be buoyed by a push against the Taliban in Swat, but a warning has been sounded that the Islamist threat cannot be quashed without a determined assault against militants entrenched in the tribal belt.

Ayman-al-Zawahri on Friday said that Pakistan military`s offensive
in the Swat valley was "doomed to failure" and described it as
part of "US crusade" to divide the Islamic country.
Al Qaeda`s number two Ayman Zawahiri called on Thursday on Pakistanis to support jihadists in the country`s tribal areas, saying it was "the" battle against the American "crusaders”, said the US-based SITE Intelligence group.
