Bill in LS to strengthen law to stop atrocities against SC, ST

With a view to strengthening the law to prevent atrocities against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, a bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, which makes wilful neglect of duties by public servants in issues relating to atrocities a punishable offence.

The Centre is considering to amend the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and expand its presumptions such as punishment for neglect of duties by public servants not belonging to SCs and STs, the Lok Sabha was told on Tuesday.
