US unemployment claims slide to 452,000

Signaling easing labour mkt conditions, the number of Americans seeking jobless benefits dropped by 28,000 to 452,000 for the week ended Dec 19.

The US unemployment rate jumped to 9.7 percent in August, as employers slashed an additional 216,000 jobs, the Bureau of Labour Statistics reported Friday.
