The Border Security Forces has deployed one hundred women constables in the north eastern region along the border with Bangladesh to improve inspection, a BSF official said on Sunday.
BSF will deploy women constables next week along the 856 km long border with Bangladesh to stop smuggling by the women from other side of the border.
Uttar Pradesh is planning to have 20 per cent of its total constabulary as women in the next few years, a top state government official on Friday said.
The women contingent of the BSF is well trained and comprises of 50 women constables.
A history of sorts was created on Friday with the induction of the first batch of 209 women constables in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police here.
Two women constables, posted at Madhuban in Haryana`s Karnal district, in separate complaints alleged that they had been raped, a senior official said today.
