JD(U) on Saturday joined BJP ally Apna Dal in demanding a sub quota for SCs/STs and OBCs in the proposed 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and Assemblies as the issue is back in focus with NDA government pledging to ensure passage of the women reservation bill.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday warned the Women`s Reservation Bill providing 33 per cent reservation for them in parliament and state legislatures would not come into force if a BJP-led government is voted to power.
BJP on Tuesday expressed its
keenness in getting the Women`s Reservation Bill passed in Lok
after a consensus is evolved on the issue and not by use of
marshals as was done in Rajya Sabha last year.
Apprehending that the women`s bill
could be put on the back-burner, AIADMK General Secretary
Jayalalithaa asked the central govt to take all
steps for its passage in the Lok Sabha when the budget session
resumes on Thursday.
