After Android 6.0.1 "Marshmallow” operating system, Google has launched Android 7.0 "Nougat" –the seventh major version of the Android operating system.

Google has maintained that since Android devices make our lives so sweet, each Android version is named after a dessert: Cupcake, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, and Jelly Bean.

Android Nougat, also named after a Spanish dessert, was first released as a beta build on March 9, 2016, it was officially released on August 22, 2016.

Google also unveiled the Android N statue in front its headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Android Nougat was on beta for quite some time.

Google's latest OS brings new features like an improved notification shade and split-screen multitasking to the mobile OS, while also improving on features like Doze that came with Marshmallow last year.

Here are ten hot features of Google's latest Android Nougat OS

Expanded emoji.

Nexus devices, The Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Nexus Player were the first to receive the update. Android 7.1 Nougat launched with the Pixel phones on 4 October, with those two devices becoming available on 20 October.

The LG V20, officially unveiled on 6 September, was the first device to feature Android 7.0 Nougat right out of the box.

Google claims that Nougat bring your words to life with updated and entirely new emoji. There are now over 1,500 different emoji built into Android, including 72 new ones.

Multilinguicity: The OS has the ability to use two or more languages at the same time, has multi locale language settings.

Quick Settings controls

Quick Settings gives you easy access to things like bluetooth, WiFi and the all-important flashlight. With Android Nougat, you can actually control what tiles go where, and move ‘em around to fit your needs.

Multi-window

Run two apps side-by-side. The windows are resizable, too, by simply dragging the divider. Now you can switch between apps with a double tap, and run two apps side by side. So go ahead and watch a movie while texting, or read a recipe with your timer open

Multi-locale support

Apps can tailor their content based on your locale settings. So if you speak multiple languages, for instance, then search engines can show results in each of those languages.

Direct Reply

Reply directly to notifications without having to open any app.

Quick Switch

Switch between your two most recently used apps by simply double tapping the Overview button.

Seamless updates

New Android devices with Nougat can install software updates in the background which means you won't have to wait while your device installs the update and optimizes all your apps for the new version.

File-based encryption

Android Nougat can better isolate and protect files for individual users on your device.
