New Delhi: Verizon Wireless, the biggest wireless provider in the US, said on Friday that it will be issuing a crippling software update on Monday tat will render the remaining Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones useless.

The update will come into effect once the holiday season is over as Verizon would like to avoid disruptions for owners to contact family, first responders and emergency medical professionals during the holiday travel season, according to Verizon's Note 7 recall site .
Users will be able to exchange their devices for a new one even after deactivation. cnet.com added that AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint will also issue the software updates from Samsung.
