Top smartphones that dominated Google Search in 2017

The global trending search for the year was topped by Hurricane Irma followed by iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

New Delhi: Search engine giant Google has released the list of top searches for the year 2017. The global trending search for the year was topped by Hurricane Irma followed by iPhone 8 and iPhone X.

“As 2017 draws to a close, it’s time to look back on the year that was with our annual Year in Search. As we do every year, we analyzed Google Trends data to see what the world was searching for,” Google News Lab Data Editor Simon Rogers posted on Google's blog.

In the Global list of Consumer Tech, seven smartphones dominated the search while three gaming consoles made it to the list.

iPhone 8

Apple launched two iphone 8 models in September this year. The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus come with glass back design made with the durable glass. The iphones come in three new finishes: space gray, silver and gold. The glass finish is made using a seven-layer color process with a color-matched aerospace-grade aluminum bezel, and is water and dust resistant.

iPhone X

iPhone X is Apple's most expensive phone ever –carrying a price tag of $999 for the starting model. iPhone X, a glass and stainless steel device with an edge-to-edge display was launched in September this year.

Nintendo Switch

The Nintendo Switch is the seventh major video game console developed by Japanese gaming major Nintendo. Nintendo Switch was unveiled in October last year but it was released worldwide  in March.

Samsung Galaxy S8

South Korean giant Samsung launched its flagship device, Galaxy S8, with voice assistant in March this year. Samsung device comes in two variants with different screen sizes -- the 5.8-inch Galaxy S8 and 6.2-inch Galaxy S8 Plus.

Xbox One X

Microsoft unveiled its new console, the Xbox One X, in May this year with ultra high-resolution 4K capabilities and a processor with liquid-cooling technology, claiming that it is the most powerful game console to date.

Nokia 3310

The nostalgia associated with Nokia 3310 –born in the year 2000 with a dark blue body which saw an entire generation grew up loving the device –is something the new Nokia seller HMD Global (that acquired the rights to use the Nokia brand for 10 years from Microsoft) sensed and brought it back to life in March this year.

Razer Phone

The Razer Phone is an Android smartphone designed and developed by Razer Inc. It went on sale on 15 November 2017. Razer has designed the Phone mainly for gamers, although reviewers have noted that it is also great for everyday use

Oppo F5

Chinese handset maker OPPO launched the F5 in October this year. The smartphone comes with Artificial Intelligence(AI)-enabled selfie technology. The device sports technology which is designed to personalise beautification of subjects while taking a selfie.

OnePlus 5

Chinese phonemaker OnePlus has launched its flagship smartphone –OnePlus 5 in June. The name OnePlus 5 has been inspired by former NBA player Robert Horry.

Nokia 6

The Nokia 6 was launched in February this year. The device comes with a A 5.5-inch in-cell full HD display with 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 processor with X6 LTE modem coupled with 4GB of RAM. It also comes with a 64 GB on internal storage which can be further expanded via microSD card.
