Etawah: In a tragic incident reminding us of the tragic tale of Odisha's Dana Manjhi, a poor father was forced to carry the lifeless body of his 15-year-old son over his shoulder after he was turned away by the doctors at a reputed government hospital in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh.
According to NDTV, Udayveer, a 45-year-old labourer, had to carry the dead body of his son over his shoulder since he was not provided either a stretcher or an ambulance by the doctors of the Etawah government hospital whom he had approached for help.
The poor man was filmed on camera as he wept badly while carrying his dead son over his shoulder.
"They said there was nothing left in Pushpendra's body...He just had a pain in his legs,'' he was quoted as saying.
Later, Rajeev Yadav, the Chief Medical Officer of the district, expressed shock over the tragic incident and called it "shameful".
"I am told the doctors were busy with a bus accident case and so they could not ask him (Udayveer) if he needed transport. There will be action...no doubt it is a blot on the reputation of this hospital and the fault is ours," Rajeev Yadav was quoted as saying.
The latest incident highlighting the insensitive behaviour of the government officials towards poorest of the poor comes several months after the entire nation was shocked to the core by the image of Odisha's farmer Dana Majhi walking with his wife's stiff body on his shoulder because there was no hearse available at the hospital.
