Make Diwali special for those in old-age homes, orphanages: UP DGP

Lucknow: In a bid to make the festival of lights more special, the office of the director general of police in Uttar Pradesh has directed all SSPs and SPs to distribute sweets, diyas, candles and fruits at orphanages and old-age homes.

Police officials have also been told to celebrate Deepawali with the children of policemen at Police Lines.

In an official statement issued by his office last night, UP DGP Sulkhan Singh said, "Deepawali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated with traditional fervour and gaiety on October 19. A number of orphans and those living in old-age homes, owing to crunch of resources and with virtually no family, cannot celebrate this festive occasion. Sharing some moments with these people on such occasions will be a humanitarian work."

On October 18, Deepawali eve, diyaas, candles, fruits can be distributed to any orphanage or old-age home in the district from 7 pm to 8 pm.

On the day, a collective event should be held at Police Lines with children and family members of policemen, the official statement said.
