UP voters have risen above Hindu-Muslim; politics of development should take place: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Having led the BJP to a spectacular victory in Uttar Pradesh, party president Amit Shah, Saturday, said the historic mandate will take the country to a new direction.

Addressing a press conference, Shah said, “People accepted politics of performance; this historic mandate will take the country to new direction.”

“This is biggest win for a party in these two states ever since bifurcation of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh,” he added.

Thanking the people of Uttar Pradesh for the landslide victory, he said, “ Move past Hindu-Muslim, a voter is a voter; politics of development should take place.”

Crediting PM Modi for the victory, Shah said, “PM Modi has emerged as the tallest leader in the country and even BJP's political rivals have to admit it.”

Shah said these elections will bring Uttar Pradesh on the track of development. “The country can't have a double-digit growth unless UP doesn't grow at a double-digit growth rate,” he said.

On the question of selecting a chief ministerial candidate, he said that the party will make a merit based decision on the matter, adding that the BJP parliamentary board will select the CM.

Shah also expressed confidence that the party will be able to form government in Goa and Manipur.

On the defeat of the SAD-BJP alliance in Punjab, he said that despite the loss the fact remains that the alliance got over 30 percent votes.

He stressed that there will no re- think on alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal.
