Beijing: Declaring that the mainland and Taiwan belong to one China, a Chinese spokesman on Wednesday asserted that "Taiwan independence" can never be allowed.

Ma Xiaoguang, spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office, said: "We will continue to uphold the 1992 Consensus, which reflects the 'One China' principle."

"We will strive for peaceful reunification with the greatest efforts and utmost sincerity, but will never allow any 'Taiwan independence' supporters to separate Taiwan from China under any name or in any form," Xinhua news agency quoted Ma as saying.

When asked about Taiwan's activities with international organisations, Ma said arrangements must be made through consultations between the mainland and Taiwan under the "One China" principle.
