After conferring ‘Anhad Sanman’ on Punjabi icons in Chandigarh last year, Zee Punjabi organized ‘Zee Himachal Shikhar Samman’ in Shimla to honour real heroes of Himachal Pradesh.
The event was held on 18th of May at Peterhoff Hotel to confer honours on 9 individuals from far flung areas of Himachal Pradesh who made a mark for themselves in their respective fields and are achievers in true sense. They dared to challenge their surroundings, economic conditions or physical conditions to make our society and country a better place. ‘Har Gaon Ki Kahani’ a revolutionary concept by Himachal Tourism to develop villages in Himachal Pradesh, was chosen as a special entity to receive this prestigious honour.
Former Olympian and hockey player ‘Padma Shri’ Sh. Charanjit Singh was honoured with Lifetime Contribution Honours on the occasion for his excellence in the field of Sports. Sharing his feelings about the event he said, “I really appreciate the efforts of the channel to identify deserving candidates from Himachal Pradesh and feel such efforts should always be encouraged in the interest of generations to come, so that they too draw inspiration to achieve excellence in their professions”.
Welcoming the guests on occasion, Mr. Barun Das, CEO, Zee News Limited said, “Understanding our responsibility towards the countrymen, as the Fourth estate, this initiative was launched five years ago in Delhi by Zee News and ever since Network channels have been annually holding ‘Ananya Samman’ through national and regional editions to honour the real heroes of society”. ‘Zee Himachal Shikhar Samman’ is another link in the chain of the same tradition which acknowledged the remarkable Contribution of these real heroes of Himachal Pradesh” he concluded.
In his thanksgiving, Sanjay Vohra, Editor, Zee Punjabi, mentioned “For long, hilly states are generally sidelined by the private news channels but we are the only news channel who has a special news bulletin dedicated to Himachal Pradesh and in a bid to strengthen our relations we specially brought this edition of honours for this hilly state”. Sharing his feelings at the success of the event he says” we feel channel didn’t honour these heroes rather, these heroes have honoured us by marking their presence here.”
“It’s a great initiative by Zee Punjabi to honour the real heroes of the society. I am all praise for it and feel really honoured” says much celebrated and popular Himachali Singer Karnail Rana after receiving ‘Zee Himachal Shikhar Samman’.
The honours were also conferred upon Constable (Late) Roshan Lal of ITBP, posthumously, for his bravery, Mukesh Kumar for his fight against HIV and teacher Hari Dutt Sharma for overpowering his physical disability. Apart from these, four women were also conferred upon honours. Student Rani Devi for overpowering her physical disabilities, Pushpa Thakur for her achievement in sports, Phoolan Devi Chandel for keeping the Himachal’s folk-dance tradition alive and Jamuna Devi of Chamba for her extraordinary motherhood.
“Zee Himachal Shikhar Samman is really commendable initiative by the channel as it brought the real heroes of Himachal Pradesh in the limelight, many of them were not known to the public earlier.” says the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Mr. Prem Kumar Dhumal, present on the occasion as Chief Guest. He was all praise for the channel and assured “we would extend our support to the channel for such initiatives in future as well”.
Political big wigs like Kaul Singh Thakur (President, Himachal Pradesh Congress) and Satpal Satti (State President, BJP) graced the occasion leaving their political differences behind.
