Mumbai Indians

177/1(15.4 Overs)

Welcome back for MI's response with the bat, in this all-important run chase.

... THE RUN CHASE ...

Well then, 177 is the magical number for Mumbai Indians to get two more crucial points. But, they will be up against some quality spin bowling from CSK. Also, MI, too, have had their fair share of frustrations regarding the opening partnership. And they will be up against the likes of Khaleel Ahmed, who has regularly picked wickets inside the restrictions. But, a much bigger question. Will DEW play its part? And if it does, will 176 be enough for CSK? An engaging run chase is up next shortly. P

MI's MITCHELL SANTNER is up for a chat. On being asked whether he loves bowling in India, Santner says that he likes used surfaces with red soil. Details that if you bowl into the wicket, the ball spun a little but overall, it seems a great surface for the batters. Adds further that if you slowed the ball, you got some spin and bounce. So, he just tried to mix the pace and is reasonably happy with the score, he adds. Feels that if MI can get a decent Powerplay with the bat, they can chase this d

Hardik's tactical gamble to hold Bumrah back for the latter stages proved masterful, as the premier pacer significantly curtailed the scoring rate just when CSK looked poised to accelerate. Also, a thing or two about Mitchell Santner, as he bowled three overs, and coming in to bowl at the 18th over, he went boundary-less, even for his entire spell. Dhoni couldn't do much, but it was Jadeja who provided those finishing touches, scoring a fifty of his own, and propelled CSK to post a respectable t

Following a sluggish period mid-innings, Dube finally broke the shackles with a flurry of sixes and boundaries. After struggling at 16 from 19 deliveries, he strategically targeted specific bowlers to launch his assault, transforming his innings from cautious to explosive in a matter of overs. He scored a fifty, the first of his season, but sooner perished, not before forming a 79-run stand with Jadeja.

The momentum shifted when Hardik's tactical gamble to bring Chahar back for a fourth over paid dividends, as he dismissed the impressive Mhatre just when CSK needed to consolidate. And just as they say, one brings two, Santner's masterclass didn't let CSK accelerate at all. With two new batters, they slowed down further. Of course, it was due to some exceptional execution of bowling from MI's bowlers.

CSK's start followed their usual script, with Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed pinned down during the first two overs before Rachin fell. Then came the Ayush Mhatre spectacle, as the debutant displayed composure and immediately took charge, fearlessly attacking the bowling with refreshing intent, something the team in yellow badly lacked. His fireworks temporarily addressed CSK's Powerplay struggles, which have been the worst among all ten teams this season in terms of average. Despite his eff

It was a captivating game of cat and mouse throughout, with these two IPL heavyweights, sharing ten trophies between them, trading calculated punches as champions do, with neither willing to cede ground in this high-stakes encounter. At 73/3 after 11 overs, CSK were pegged back enormously, but since then, they have managed to score 103 runs in the last 9 overs, losing just two wickets. But, credit where it is due, Mumbai Indians were exceptional in the ground fielding, setting up extremely high

Trent Boult to Jamie Overton, A full ball, on the pads, Jamie Overton misses his flick. The ball goes off his pads towards square leg and the batters take a leg bye. CHENNAI SUPER KINGS FINISH ON 176/5!

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, A low full toss, pushed down to long on for a run.

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, ! 50 UP FOR JADEJA, IN 34 BALLS! Not his most fluent innings, but at least, he has got something. His first this season and just his 4th in IPL overall. A full ball, down the leg side, Jadeja whips it to the right of short fine leg and gets the boundary.

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, ! THWACK! CSK touch the 170-mark. A full toss, around middle, Ravindra Jadeja swings it miles over mid-wicket!

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, Yorker now, on middle and leg, this time Ravindra Jadeja works it to the left of long on, calls for two and gets them. A poor throw to the bowler helps the batters.

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, Full toss, on middle, worked through mid-wicket for a couple.

Trent Boult to bowl the 20th over. 3-0-28-0 so far.

Jasprit Bumrah to Jamie Overton, No run.

Jasprit Bumrah to Jamie Overton, EDGED, ! Terrific yorker, around leg stump, Jamie Overton tries to get his bat down, but is late.

Jamie Overton walks in next at number 7, replacing his skipper, MS Dhoni.

Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, ! CAUGHT! A full toss gets the better of Dhoni!

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, Full toss, drilled down to long on for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, MISFIELD, ! Ahh... elementary mistake and Bumrah is not impressed.

Boult or Boom Boom? Normally, in white-ball cricket, while bowling first, the best bowler bowls the 20th over. In a run chase, the best bowler bowls the 19th. Hardik reverses the trend. Bumrah to bowl the 19th here.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, Outside off, driven straight to cover.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, Flighted, outside off, thumped down to long off for just a single. What a brilliant over! Just 5 runs from it and Mitchell Santner's figures read 3-0-13-1, which has 8 dot balls and not a single boundary!

Mitchell Santner to MS Dhoni, No pace offered whatsoever. Short ball, outside off, Dhoni waits and waits and waits for the ball to arrive, before only managing a punch to sweeper cover for one.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, Short again, outside off, slapped to deep cover for a single.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, Wide!

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, No run.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, WIDE. This is a master at work. Sees Jadeja charge out early and fires it miles outside off. The keeper, Ryan Rickelton has to move that extra yard to his left to collect that and hence, by the time he can gather the ball and disturb the stumps, Jadeja gets back.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, Huge shout for LBW! Not given. Mumbai Indians take the review. Seemed to be missing leg to the naked eye, but we felt the same earlier on too, when Shaik Rasheed was batting. It was an arm ball, around middle, Ravindra Jadeja got down to play the sweep but missed and was hit on the pads. UltraEdge detects nothing when the ball comes near the bat but Ball Tracking projects the ball to be clipping leg stump. Umpire's call saves Jadeja!

Will Ashwani get another? MI have 3 overs left, with one each of Bumrah and Boult. Will it be Hardik now? Nope! It is Mitchell Santner. 2-0-8-1 so far.

Mitchell Santner to MS Dhoni, A short ball, around middle, MS Dhoni goes back and punches it down to long on for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, Another full toss, on the pads again, Dhoni can only push it towards long on for a run. Just 3 runs and a wicket from the over, after a big 24-run one in the last. Jasprit Bumrah's figures read 3-0-16-1.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, Full toss, on the pads, Ravindra Jadeja whips it to deep square leg for a run.

Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, Around off, pushed down to long on for a single to get off the mark.

Jasprit Bumrah to MS Dhoni, No run.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, ! CAUGHT! Bumrah makes up for his dropped catch of Dube.

The crowd erupts as MS Dhoni makes his way out to the middle at number 6, replacing Shivam Dube.

Jasprit Bumrah returns. 2-0-13-0 so far.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, No run.

Ashwani Kumar to Ravindra Jadeja, ! 24 FROM THE OVER! Fuller ball, slower one, outside off, Jadeja gets underneath and sends it sailing over long off!

Ashwani Kumar to Shivam Dube, 50 FOR SHIVAM DUBE! In 30 balls. His first this season.

Ashwani Kumar to Shivam Dube, MORE! Ashwani goes a yard fuller, around middle and leg and Dube punishes! Gets right underneath the ball and swings it cleanly over long on!

Ashwani Kumar to Shivam Dube, , ! Jasprit Bumrah, of all the people!

Ashwani Kumar to Ravindra Jadeja, Better length, almost a yorker, outside off, Jadeja digs it out towards cover and scampers through for a single. The stand moves to 60 (44).

Ashwani Kumar to Ravindra Jadeja, ! THUNDEROUS!

STRATEGIC TIME. A better phase for CSK in the last few overs. They have scored just 70/2 in the 9 overs of the middle phase, but the last 3 of that phase have yielded 36. Shivam Dube is finding some momentum and Chennai Super Kings will want to capitalize on the same. A good surge at the death can take them to around 180 but with the dew seeming to take effect, even that may not be enough. But that is for later. Can Chennai try and post SOMETHING which can be called as competitive? On the o

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, Too full, outside off, Ravindra Jadeja carves it in front of the point fielder and steals a quick single.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, Drags the length back, around off, at 125.3 kph, Shivam Dube pulls it down to long on for a single.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, An attempted yorker, gone as a full toss, on middle and leg, Shivam Dube flicks along the ground, between deep mid-wicket and long on. Will Jacks from deep mid-wicket runs across to his right and slides to stop the ball. Just two then.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, A low full toss, on off, smashed by Dube, but straight to mid off.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, ! INTO THE ORBIT! However, it goes off the top edge, but Dube and CSK won't mind one bit. Full toss on the pads, Shivam Dube looks to whip across, but gets a thick top edge. The ball swirls up for an eternity and gets parked into the stands, behind deep fine leg.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, WIDE! Wayward down leg, full, Dube misses to whip across. Called a wide.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, ! HAMMERED!

Shivam Dube earned his India cap primarily because of his abilities to hammer spin. However, this season, Dube has a noticeably lower strike rate against spin compared to pace. He has been striking at 139 against the quicks but only at 118 against the tweakers. Trent Boult is back on. 2-0-13-0 so far.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, Length delivery, outside off, slapped through cover-point for just a single. So, despite a six, Hardik concedes only 11 from the over.

Hardik Pandya to Ravindra Jadeja, Leg bye.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, Fired in with steam, full and on off, Shivam Dube carves it to the right of long on for a single.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, ! This will help him to get out of jail! A genuine half volley, on leg stump, Shivam Dube clears his front leg and whips it behind deep square leg for a cracking six. The 100 is up for CSK!

Missed it! When Jadeja crossed the score of 11, he brought up 2000 RUNS IN THE IPL FOR CSK. Becomes only the 5th player to do so.

Hardik Pandya to Ravindra Jadeja, A knee-length full toss, across off, Jadeja does not get the whole of it and heaves off the inner half to long on. For just a single.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, Fuller and on middle and leg, Dube whips it uppishly, on the bounce to deep backward square leg, for just one.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, Gets it on the money! Slower one, at 121.8 kph, at the legs, Shivam Dube tickles it to deep fine leg for only a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, WIDE! He will have to reload that one again! Rolls the fingers to deceive the batter with a slower one, but he misfires it down the leg side. Wide called.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, Fires it in, fuller and on the legs, Ravindra Jadeja flicks it away to deep backward square leg for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, Excellent bowling! Bumrah sees Dube shuffling outside leg, and just bowls closer to the body of the batter, on a length. Dube is cramped up for space and can only punch it down to long on for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, On the hard length, at the leg stump, worked into the leg side for a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, ! Gone fine, and fine enough! A bit too short from Bumrah, angling on the leg stump line, bouncing just above the waist height. Ravindra Jadeja is quick to swivel and guide the ball with a pull, beating the deep fine leg fielder to his left for a boundary.

Jasprit Bumrah returns. 1-0-3-0 so far.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, Back of a length, into the stumps, Shivam Dube heaves to long on for a single.

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, Cunning bowling this! Jadeja, though looks at the leg umpire, but he does not signal for a Wide. But, he does not opt for a review either. A slower bouncer from Boult, angling on the leg stump line. Ravindra Jadeja swings for the hills but only manages to connect thin air.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, On the pads, another full toss, Shivam Dube flicks away to deep mid-wicket for a single.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, ! PUNISHED! Banged in short and into the bodyline, Shivam Dube quickly reads the length and swivels for a pull. Hits it a bit uppishly over square leg for a boundary.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, Another full toss, on the stumps, Shivam Dube heaves across to the left of long on. Mitchell Santner does the hard yards and gets to the ball instantly, limiting the batters for just a couple.

Trent Boult to Ravindra Jadeja, A low full toss, around off, Ravindra Jadeja flicks it wide of long on for a single again.

Trent Boult to Shivam Dube, Fires in a full toss, on the pads, Shivam flicks it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

The bowling coach of Mumbai Indians, PARAS MHAMBREY, is up for a chat.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, Short and outside off, Shivam Dube gets on his toes and cuts it to deep backward point for a single. Just three runs from this over, and only 7 from the last two.

Hardik Pandya to Ravindra Jadeja, The call is for two, but they won't get! Full and on middle and leg, Ravindra Jadeja clips it all along the ground to deep mid-wicket for a single. Looks for the second, takes a few steps out, but is sent back by Dube.

Hardik Pandya to Ravindra Jadeja, Another dot! An attempted yorker, on middle, Ravindra Jadeja carves it back to the bowler. Hardik almost deflects the ball to the stumps at the non-striker's end, but it goes past them and rolls to the mid off fielder.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, A bit too full, on the leg stump, Shivam Dube flicks it behind square in the leg side for a single.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, A searing yorker, cannoned on middle, Shivam Dube can only jam it back to the bowler. Too many dot balls, again for CSK here.

7th bowler for Mumbai Indians. Bumrah has been taken off. Hardik Pandya brings himself on.

Hardik Pandya to Shivam Dube, Banged almost halfway on the pitch, across off, Shivam Dube tries to smash it down the ground, but gets no timing whatsoever, mistiming it to the left of mid off.

Will Jacks to Ravindra Jadeja, Very full, on middle, Ravindra Jadeja gets down to sweep, dangerously from the line of the stumps. Just about manages to get his bat down in time, sweeping the ball to square leg. After a bit of hustle and bustle, the batters get two.

Will Jacks to Shivam Dube, A touch shorter, around off, Shivam Dube punches it down to long off for a single.

Will Jacks to Shivam Dube, Around off, worked towards short mid-wicket.

Will Jacks to Shivam Dube, No run.

Will Jacks to Ravindra Jadeja, 1 run.

Will Jacks to Ravindra Jadeja, No run.

STRATEGIC TIME. A bit of a good passage for Chennai Super Kings during the Rasheed-Mhatre partnership but overall, it has been Mumbai Indians so far. Will Jacks gets the ball now.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, NEARLY A RUN !

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, A full toss now, driven down the ground towards mid off. Hardik Pandya gets a bad bounce and fumbles, conceding a single.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, On a length, outside off, pushed towards cover.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, No run.

Jasprit Bumrah to Shivam Dube, No run.

Jasprit Bumrah to Ravindra Jadeja, 1 run.

Shivam Dube walks in next at number 5, replacing Shaik Rasheed. And finally, Jasprit Bumrah has been given the ball.

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, ! STUMPED! Classical left-arm spin bowling.

Gone? Seems like it. Ryan Rickelton has affected a wonderful stumping and the Mumbai Indians are confident. The third umpire wants a confirmation. Yes. The gloves of the keeper are behind the stumps and the foot of the batter is outside the crease when the bails are broken.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, A touch short, Jadeja jumps out and punches it through mid-wicket for another single.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, No run.

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, A touch short, around middle, clipped through mid-wicket for one.

Mitchell Santner to Ravindra Jadeja, Fuller, around middle, pushed through mid on for a run.

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, On middle and leg, worked through mid-wicket for a single.

Deepak Chahar to Ravindra Jadeja, Landed outside off, flayed through point for a couple to get off the mark. 11 runs but a wicket from the over as well, Deepak Chahar finishes off his quota in 7 overs itself, with figures of 4-0-32-1.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, ! CAUGHT! The debutant's innings is done. It was a quickfire knock, no doubt, a fantastic 32 (15) but having already got 9 runs from the over, one feels he could have just reigned in his horses.

Ravindra Jadeja walks in next, at number 4, replacing Ayush Mhatre.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, WIDE. A short ball now, outside off, AM slashes hard but misses. Wide signalled for height.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, ! Fantastic shot.

Controversy time! Well, the replays are shown for that last ball of the Powerplay. Remember, Santner had appealed for LBW, only to be turned down? We felt that the ball was going down the leg side but Ball Tracking shows it to be hitting leg stump! Now then!

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, Excellent yorker, outside off, Mhatre looks to drive but misses.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, Fuller, on middle, driven back to the bowler.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, ! THUMP! Fractionally short, outside off, Ayush Mhatre stands tall and slaps it over cover for a boundary! 50 UP FOR CSK!

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, There comes the arm ball. Fired in on middle and leg, SR stays back to work it to the leg side but misses and is hit on the pads, Santner appeals for LBW but the umpire shakes his head. Possibly heading down the leg side. 48/1 at the end of the Powerplay for CSK. Not bad, after getting just 16 in the first 3.

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, Nicely bowled again. Seeing Rasheed back away to the leg side, Santner tosses this up wide outside off. Shaik has to reach out for the ball, aiming to go inside out and skews it off the outer half of the bat, just about clearing short third. It is hauled back in and the batters take a couple.

Mitchell Santner to Ayush Mhatre, Floated, outside off, Ayush comes forward and drives it through mid off for a run.

Mitchell Santner to Ayush Mhatre, Beautifully bowled. Given plenty of air, outside off, Mhater winds up for a big swing across the line but at the last moment, adjusts and pushes the ball towards point.

Mitchell Santner to Shaik Rasheed, Fired down the leg side, Shaik Rasheed misses his flick and the ball goes off his pads towards short fine leg. A leg bye taken.

Final over of the Powerplay. Will Hardik turn to Bumrah? Or will it be Ashwani again? Neither! It is the spin of Mitchell Santner.

Mitchell Santner to Ayush Mhatre, Slow through the air, around off, just a touch short, Ayush Mhatre goes back and works it through mid on for a single.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Half-tracker, outside off, nibbling away. Shaik Rasheed opts out midway to play the pull shot.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, Oh, that was traveling as well, but Naman Dhir with an excellent save! Hard length, outside off, Ayush Mhatre executes the square cut nicely off the back foot, but Dhir does equally well to stop it with a dive to his right.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Chahar now nails a pinpoint yorker, on middle, Shaik Rasheed is quick to bring his bat down and flick to deep mid-wicket for a couple of quick runs.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, ! Into his 20s, is Mhatre! That is a shot and a half! Deepak Chahar bashes the hard length, just around off, Ayush Mhatre flat-bats it and smashes it right over the bowler for a cracking boundary.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, Halfway on the pitch, angling on the pitch, Ayush Mhatre tries to nudge across to the leg side, but misses The ball clips his front thigh pad and rolls back to the bowler.

Deepak Chahar to Ayush Mhatre, WIDE! An over-the-head bumper, around off, Ayush Mhatre misses to pull. Wide called.

Bumrah time? Not yet.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Fuller ball, on off, Shaik Rasheed presses ahead and dabs it in front of backward point for a single. Had to hurry there.

Ashwani Kumar to Ayush Mhatre, ! Played like an experienced veteran! Ashwani Kumar bangs it short and on top of middle, Ayush Mhatre reads the length early, creates a stable base and nails the pull shot, rows behind deep square leg for a cracking six. A wicket off the first ball and then Ashwani goes for 18 in the next five.

Ashwani Kumar to Ayush Mhatre, ! OH, HELLO? We saw Vaibhav Suryavanshi starting his career off with a bang, and this time Ayush Mhatre is doing the same. Fuller ball, into the slot, on middle and leg, Ayush Mhatre picks it up nicely, brings wrists in play and with just a little chip aerially, deposits it behind deep mid-wicket for a six.

Ashwani Kumar to Ayush Mhatre, ! Straight as an arrow! No big-stage nerves at all for these youngsters these days! Angling across off, on a good length, Ayush Mhatre weighs on the back foot and cracks the straight drive, to the left of long off for a boundary.

Ashwani Kumar to Shaik Rasheed, Back of a length, on the stumps, worked to the leg side for a single.

Ashwani Kumar to Ayush Mhatre, Oh, just wide of mid off.

Debutant Ayush Mhatre walks in next at number 3, replacing Rachin Ravindra. Big moment for the debutant, coming in at a pressure situation.

Ashwani Kumar to Rachin Ravindra, ! EDGED, AND CAUGHT BEHIND! Wow, holding back Bumrah and giving the ball to Ashwani and he just does not disappoint the skipper. That's the end of Rachin Ravindra. He bowls it on the money, just around the off stump line, on that three-quarter of a length, and gets it to nip away. Rachin Ravindra with barely any footwork, tries to heave across the line of the ball, and swings hard at it. But ends up catching a thick outside edge and the keeper does the

First bowling change of the night. Here's Ashwani Kumar.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, ! Finally, the first boundary for CSK! Back of a length, shaping inward from middle, Shaik Rasheed stands tall, swings across and pulls all along the ground, beating deep square leg to his left for boundary.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Big swing and a miss! Short from Deepak, on top of off, Shaik Rasheed rises up with the bounce to pull, but the ball bounce a bit extra to beat his angled bat.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Short of a good length, on top of the middle and leg, Shaik Rasheed swivels and pulls between deep square leg and deep mid-wicket. Trent Boult from deep backward square leg, scoots across to the left and intercepts the ball. Just limits the batters to another couple of runs.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Fractional fuller, on off, Shaik Rasheed with a heave across, but he mistimes it off the inside half of the bat. The ball rolls to the left of short fine leg and the batters hare back for the second.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, That in-between length, just outside off, punched off the back foot to point.

Trent Boult and the new ball have been a good combination in all formats, generally, but specifically so, in the IPL. Since 2020, Boult has taken the most wickets in the Powerplay - 55.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Fuller one, on the fourth stump line, Shaik Rasheed presses forward and stabs it to the backward point region.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, No run.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, Trying to get a bit adventurous there! Much fuller than the previous one, shaping away outside off, Rachin Ravindra shimmies forward and tries to carve it out to the off side, but gets a thickish outside edge and the ball rolls to short third. Rachin Ravindra sniffs a single, but is sent back in time.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, Shaping away from off, on a yard behind fuller length, Rachin Ravindra strides forward and knocks it to the right of cover. A sharp stop there by Suryakumar Yadav with a timely dive.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, 2 runs.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, Fuller one again from Boult, a bit straight though. Rachin leans on it and drives it to the left of mid off. Mitchell Santner slides to the left and half stops it. A couple of runs taken.

Trent Boult to Rachin Ravindra, A beauty to start with from Boult! Runs in hard, hurls it fuller and swings away from off. Rachin Ravindra with bare minimum of foot work, tries to push hard, but plays inside the line and gets beaten past the outside edge.

In the reverse fixture, Ravindra had scored an unbeaten 65 (45).

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, This one skids through off the deck, on a good length, just outside off, Shaik Rasheed with that classical back foot punch through the cover region. It is chased by one of the fielders from the inner ring, right before the boundary rope. A couple of runs to round up the first over. CSK are 4/0.

Deepak Chahar to Rachin Ravindra, Hits the deck hard, on off, Rachin Ravindra plays it close to the bat, lets it arrive and taps it to the off side for a quick single. Rachin Ravindra is off the mark as well.

Deepak Chahar to Rachin Ravindra, A slip in place for Rachin and finds the edge straightaway! Runs in good rhythm, bowls on a nagging length, starting from the leg stump and shaping away towards off. Rachin Ravindra gets a bit of an outside edge, and goes back to the first slip on the bounce.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, CSK and Rasheed are off the mark. Fuller-length delivery, on off, Shaik Rasheed pushes it to the right of mid off and runs a quick single.

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Whoa, this time Chahar bowls an inswinger, fuller and angling on the middle stump, Shaik Rasheed plants his front foot ahead and drives it to mid on. A bit of late adjustment there from Rasheed for that incoming delivery.

Right then. About to get underway. The 'CHAMPAK', the official pet of IPL 2025, leads the two umpires out to the middle. Hardik Pandya is giving some last-minute pep talk to his team, in a huddle. Out walk the Chennai Super Kings openers - Rachin Ravindra and Shaik Rasheed. Slight change of plans from MI. Normally, it is Trent Boult to bowl the first over, but tonight, it shall be Deepak Chahar. Rasheed to face. Here we go!

Deepak Chahar to Shaik Rasheed, Gets swing straightaway, does Deepak Chahar! Fuller and just around off, shaping away. Shaik Rasheed leans into the drive and cracks the shot, but straight to cover.

Ooohh... big call from the CSK management. On a big day, they have gone ahead to field a player who has not played a single game of T20 cricket, AYUSH MHATRE, let alone the pressure-stricken IPL. At the age of 17, Ayush is the YOUNGEST PLAYER TO REPRESENT CSK in the IPL. Not quite sure about the reason to bench Dewald Brevis. This would have been the best scenario for the South African to play, given that he has played for MI and at the Wankhede in the past. Has to be some strong reason.

The captain of Chennai Super Kings, MS DHONI, says that he was looking to bowl first as well with the main reason being dew, which has already set in. Adds that the only thing to see is with this wind, whether the dew disappears or not. On CSK's mindset, Dhoni says that since they are at the bottom of the table, looking too far ahead won't suit them. So they are just looking to do well and not look for big match winners, but play more as a team instead, he adds. MS further says that Chennai n

The skipper of Mumbai Indians, HARDIK PANDYA, says that it looks like a good track, adding that it is the same wicket where they played RCB. On the reason to bowl first, Hardik says that MI can identify plans looking at the wicket while bowling first, and feels that the deck has some good covering of grass. On the team's mindset with the playoffs just a few weeks ahead, Pandya says that the mindset is just about executing plans and keep it simple and back their instincts. Admits that MI have

TOSS - Time for the spin of the coin. HEADS is the call from MS Dhoni but it flips down as a Tail. MUMBAI INDIANS CHOOSE TO BOWL FIRST.

On the o
