BENGALURU: At least five people died after a fire broke out at a bar-cum-restaurant in Bengaluru's Kalasipalya area in the wee hours on Monday.

The five people who died were employees at the restaurant and were sleeping inside when the blaze started. They have been identified as Swami (23), Prasad (20), Mahesh, Manjunath (45) and Keerthi (24).

The blaze and smoke was first noticed at around 2:30 in the morning by locals after which they alerted the police. "An incident of fire has occurred at Kailash Bar and Restaurant located in the ground floor of Kumbaara sangha building, in the vegetable market area," said a senior police officer. "Fire and smoke was noticed by some persons at around 2.30 am and fire services were pressed into action. Two fire tenders and one fire rescue vehicle attended to it and it has been doused."

The reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained. RV Dayashankar, owner of Kailash went missing after being called by cops.
