The first session of the first Bihar legislative assembly having 152 members had begun on July 22, 1937.
The first state elections were held in 1952.
Before the partition of Bihar, the total strength of membership in the assembly was 331, including one nominated member.
There are 243 assembly seats in Bihar. Bihar is one of six states having legislative councils. The legislative council has 75 seats (63 Elected + 12 Nominated).
Congress leader Shri Krishan Sinha was the first CM of Bihar.
The EVM was first used in the by-election of the Parur Assembly constituency in Kerala. It was equipped with a Ballot Unit and a Control Unit.
In 2013, VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) was used for the first time in the by-election of the Noksen Assembly constituency in Nagaland.
The price of a Control Unit (CU) is 9,812, the price of a Ballot Unit (BU) is 7,991, and the price of a VVPAT is 16,132.

An EVM has the capacity to record 2,000 votes, but generally, only about 1,500 votes are recorded in one EVM.
One Ballot Unit of an EVM can cover 16 candidates including NOTA. A single Control Unit can be connected with up to 24 Ballot Units. Therefore, depending on the requirement, one EVM can cover up to 384 candidates including NOTA.
The size of VVPAT slips is 99 × 56 millimeters. They are essentially made of thermal paper, with a print retention capacity of up to 5 years.
