State-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) has applied for patents rights for surface hydrocarbon detection technique which are expected by April.
“ We are expecting to receive the patents rights for genetic detection of surface hydrocarbon and software parameters by April 2001,” ONGC executive director (R&D) Kuldeep Chandra told PTI .
Crediting 1,700 R&D team for developing the two processes, he said that these patents can be utilised commercially in exploration and drilling works once we receive the rights.

“ Under the process, we would look for bacteria cluster having hydrogen concentration of 600 parts per billion,” he said, adding this technique would help in identifying prospective area with high oil and gas deposits.
“This software technique would help us determining intra-basinal and inter-basinal priorities before venturing into exploration works,” he added.
